  • Dear Aleana,

It seems to me that changing your topic to incarceration is a major turning point. And that your brain maps are an important tool for thinking-visualizing. Your topic definitely is wide in scope, deep in its implications for all of us – free or incarcerated. Thanks for making me think – and good luck with this one!

The U.S. rate is 500 prisoners per 100,000 residents, or about 1.6 million prisoners in 2010, according to the latest available data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). Men make up 90 percent of the prison and local jail population, and they have an imprisonment rate 14 times higher than the rate for women.Aug 10, 2012

Love the new topic, Alaena. Did this come about from looking at a branch of last week’s brain map, or some other inspiration? Have you read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson? I highly recommend it!

    • I haven’t read that but I want to! I wanted to do this topic for a school project but ended up deciding on something else and I thought this would be a good time to look into it. Thanks for your comment!
