WTS: Welcome and Kickoff Information

Welcome to What’s the Story? The Vermont Young People Social Action Team.

Our WTS kickoff day is on Friday September 16th, and it will be the only time all year that we will ask our learners to join us rather than attend their regular school. The major focuses for the day will be to meet one another, unpack traits integral to social issues, explore topics of interest in reference to that list of traits, and introduce platforms we will use to communicate and collaborate.

Location: We will meet on the Middlebury College campus, in the Mitchell Green Lounge, which is on the top floor of the McCullough Student Center.

  • From Route 125 (also called College Street) turn onto Old Chapel Road. After about 700 feet, the McCullough Student Center will be on your right. You should be able to park on Old Chapel Road or on nearby street. Click here for a campus map.

  • Our work together will begin promptly at 9am. Please arrive by 8:45am. Drinks and snacks should be waiting for you.

  • Parents and other stakeholders are invited to rejoin us at 2:30pm, when we will:
    • Introduce our team of instructors and mentor-teachers
    • Provide an overview of the curriculum and rhythm of the year
    • Introduce our new website and a way to subscribe to our electronic newsletter
    • Answer questions
  • We’ll end our day together by 3:15pm.

Lunch and snacks are provided.

What to bring:

  • If you have a laptop or access to one, please bring it on the 16th. If you don’t, please let me know, and I’ll try to have extras as needed.

If learners or their parents have any questions before the 16th, please email me: toleary@acsu.org. If anything comes up the morning of the 16th or you need last-minute directions call/text me at the number I included in the email.

Because our in-person time is so limited during the year, please double-check our dates and reserve those times for us. You can find them on the application.

I’m excited to meet our learners on the 16th. As you begin your school year, please know that just a few spots still remain for this year’s WTS cohort; if you know someone in middle or high school who might thrive in an environment like this, please encourage them to apply.
